The american author who died of lung cancer in the UK is probably one of the best known science-fiction writers, or at least, he should be. He will be known to Star Trek fans in any case, since he started to write novels based on the original series.

His "Cities in Flight" series is still available today and is regarded one of his master- pieces.

But blish was not only a science-fiction author, he also was one of the most important critics of the genre (under the name of William Atheling Jr.).
