Walter Ernsting read Science Fiction from when he was ten. He fought in the second world war, being a POW in Russia until 1952.

After that he worked as a translator for the british administration in germany.

In 1955 he published his first science fiction story, using the pseudonym Clark Darlton.

He is one of the founders of the german series "Perry Rhodan", for which he wrote 192 issues.
